A more or less ancient photo of some of my ancestors on my mother’s side. A twice-removed something sent it to me a year or so ago.
I really like the gaptah in this picture, both are made of reindeer fur and were most definitely hand-stitched. The amount of work that went into making the clothes they’re both wearing is mind-boggling.
Also, don’t know if this goes for other ‘indigenous footwear’ as well, but there are traditionally speaking no left or right foot South Saami gaamegeh (shoes), instead they were made so that they would fit both feet and every couple of days, the shoe worn on the left foot was shifted to the right foot and vice versa as this made them last longer.
